Corazón Reposado Named “Best Reposado Tequila” by The Fifty Best

Best Reposado Tequila

Reposado is fast becoming the most popular of the three NOM standard types of 100% blue agave tequilas (Blanco, Reposado, or Añejo).

The reason is simple:
Reposado (also referred to as "rested" and "aged") is Blanco tequila that has been stored in wood barrels for between two and eleven months. The aging gives Reposado its pale color, a pleasing bouquet, and a mellowed taste that is gentler to the palate— perfect for sipping as well as for cocktails.

The Tasting

The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of 10 reposado tequilas with a panel of 16 judges. Strict tasting rules were applied. The order of service was established beforehand by lottery. The tequilas were poured into fresh glasses from new sealed bottles, and served at slightly above room temperature. Only ice water, neutral unflavored crackers and chips were available to cleanse the palate.

The judges wrote down their impressions of each product on score sheets. The scoring was done on a 5-point system, with 5 as the best. Double-Gold and Gold medals are awarded according to a set range of final point scores received from the judges. There were no Silver or Bronze medals awarded for this tasting. The tasting notes that follow are summaries of the judges’ opinions, with all replicated commentary eliminated. The municipalities of origin are identified for each brand.
